1279.jpg

Location: Carmel
Distance: 1.9 miles
Skill Level: easy, good for little walkers
Elevation Gain: minimal
Type of Hike: out-and-back
Trail Condition: dirt, elevated boardwalks through swampy areas
Wow Factor: the “peaceful spot” overlooking the lake

How to get there: Located at the corner of Route 52 and 301.  There is street parking along 301.

Address to get you close: 3730 New York 301, Carmel, NY 10512

Summary: From 301, head into the brush toward the lake through any opening.  Walk away from 52 and you will start to see the white trail signs and kiosks.  Follow the markers a little and take the path on the left to the “peaceful spot” viewpoint to take in the entire lake.  American flags are up along the northern end from Memorial to Labor day and Christmas trees are up in December.  This would also be a great spot when the lake is frozen over and all the ice fishermen are out.

Back track back to the main white trail and head left.  You’ll pass over a driveway and cross over around a dozen boardwalks.  Then the trail just follows the edge of the lake.  You’ll hit the property line for the big white house on the end and turn around.
