Bull Hill

Also known as Mount Taurus

080.JPG

Location: Cold Spring
Distance: 1.7 miles
Skill Level: moderate
Elevation Gain: 300′
Type of Hike: out-and-back
Trail Condition: rocky road
Wow Factor: quarry exploration

How to get there: From 301, head north one mile.  There will be a parking area to the right.  You will see a sign for Little Stony Point across the street.  It fills quickly on weekends in good weather.

Address to get you close: 3206 Bear Mountain-Beacon Hwy, Cold Spring, NY 10516

Summary: From the parking lot, head up the Washburn white trail.  You’ll come to a fork in the road, keep following white right.  Now, just head up.  There are almost no flat or down spots the entire way but its only about half a mile so keep on keepin’ on.

At this point, you’ll see the quarry to the left.  This wide open area is mostly flat and fun for exploration.  Follow the unmarked paths in a wide loop around the perimeter.  A lot of this stone went down to make the Brooklyn Bridge (or so Google tells me).

If you’re feeling strong, keep heading up the hill for some more view points, but my 40lbs of babies attached to me head down from here.  Follow white back to the parking lot.
