071.jpg

Location: Yorktown
Distance: 1.8 miles
Skill Level: easy, good for little walkers and strollers
Elevation Gain: 100′
Type of Hike: loop
Trail Condition: trail, gravel
Wow Factor: ends in a playground
Note: parking for Yorktown residents only (at least when FDR is charging for parking)

How to get there: From the Taconic, take Route 202 East half a mile.  The entrance is on the right just past the entrance for FDR.  (There is a secondary entrance at the light for 132 but not the one you want)

Address: 2881 Crompond Road, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598

Summary: Head toward the far left corner of the parking, near the courts.  The white trail starts through the fence and is a little close for a short distance.  Follow it left, pass the green trail.  A large woods road opens up as you head south into FDR State Park.

Go past the intersection with orange and red.  White ends at a short, steep uphill section into the pool lot.  Make a right and head out of the parking lot onto the road for just a minute.  Make a right on the gravel road.  (White will take you back on the gravel road.)

Turn right on red at the kiosk.  Pass the green trail and follow the red trail left.  You’ll pass some interesting ruins on a wide dirt path that is well maintained.  Make a right on green and follow it north until it ends at white.

Left on white and head back off the path toward the parking lot.  The playground has picnic tables, a climbing structure, but only a split rail fence between it and the road.

Facilities: restrooms
Hunting: no
Dogs: on a leash
