Also called Ninham

269.JPG

Location: Kent
Distance: 1.5 miles
Skill Level: easy, good for little walkers
Elevation Gain: 400′
Type of Hike: out-and -back
Trail Condition: gravel road
Wow Factor: views from the fire tower

How to get there: From Route 6, head north on 52.  Make a right on 301.  Go over the stone bridge on the reservoir and make the first right onto Gipsy Trail Rd.  Make a left on Mt. Nimham Ct.  Drive up the narrow and steep road.  There is a parking area by two gates and a fake stone chamber.

Summary: Across from the parking area, there is a fake stone chamber.  Nice to check out but full of graffiti.

Head around the gate to the right and start up the hill.  You can use an all-terrain stroller on this but may have difficulty getting through the gap.  You could always open it on the other side or lift it over.

A few minutes up the road, you will see the real stone chamber on the right.  Go ahead and check it out, being watchful for birds or bats.  There is a lot of controversy about who made these–farmers, natives, druids, aliens?

The road goes straight up and you can’t miss the tower as you round the final corner.

You are allowed to climb this tower and there is a little room on the top but there is no door to shut so I wouldn’t let very little ones walk but I’ve climbed it wearing my twins.  If you do decide to go up, use caution as the stairs are narrow.
