Skill Level: easy
Elevation Gain: 200′
Type of Hike: lollipop
Trail Condition: gravel, rocky, dirt, trail, paved
Wow Factor: interesting ruins

How to get there: From Route 9, take the 9A-South/Albany Post Rd.  Follow the road for less than a quarter mile.  Make a right on Furnace Dock Rd.  It is a very small road.  Drive down to the river and railroad tracks.  Follow the road as it changes to Cortlandt St.  The parking area is about half a mile down the road on the left by the large wooden sign and a road that is blocked off with a gate.  If you hit Maiden Ln, you went too far.

Address to get you close: 60 Cortlandt Rd

Summary:

From the parking lot, head left, further down the road.  Cross the street to pick up the trail to the right of the water. Follow blue uphill for a quarter of a mile.

Make a right on white and follow it a few minutes.

You’ll see a stone building to your left.  Pick your way on the unmarked path to go check it out.  There are no signs that say you can’t enter (as of 3/16) but use your best judgement.  The buildings aren’t being maintained.

Go to the other side of the building to see into the top half.

Pick up the white trail again and head right.  Follow white all the way back until you dead end at blue.

Hang left on blue and take it down to the parking lot.
