Hemlock Brook Preserve

20171109_115552

Location: Yorktown Heights
Distance: .8 mile
Skill Level: easy
Elevation Gain: 50′
Type of Hike: lollipop
Trail Condition: dirt trail
Wow Factor: old stone chimney, views of the ravine

How to get there:  From the Taconic, take Underhill Ave toward Croton.  Make a right on Baldwin Rd (continue right to stay on Baldwin).  Head left on Baptist Church Rd.  Drive less than half a mile.  At the bend in the road find a place to park near the gate to a grassy lane (If you cross the bridge, you went too far).

Summary:

From the parking area, head down the hill, further along Baptist Church Rd.  Cross at the driveway and pick up the trail between the driveway and creek.  It looks like private property but a short way into the woods, you’ll see a small kiosk.

Walk parallel with the driveway and creek following the green markers, being careful of the steep hill down the ravine.

Shortly there will be a fork to start the loop.  I like to go downhill to the right for the best view of the stone fireplace.  The bench near the chimney is a great spot to picnic (just be careful of the drop) and take in the views.

Continue your hike back up the hill and around until you come back to the fork.

Stay right and continue back toward the road the way you came.
